Resources and Research Opportunities

Before graduate school, I had the opportunity to learn about phenomenal resources, be a part of some great programs, and do some great research. In in attempt to pay it forward, I am including some of those programs and resources here on this page (in no particular order). I will update this as opportunities and resources become available, so by no means is this list exhaustive:

PhD Project: The PhD Project was founded upon the premise that advancements in workplace diversity could be propelled forward by increasing the diversity of business school faculty. The flagship event for The PhD Project is the annual conference for potential doctoral students. At this 2-day conference, potential students can network with doctoral students, business school representatives, professors and sponsor organizations, all in one place. The PhD Project supports students throughout the process and creates networks of diverse, driven, and successful minority PhD candidates and professors.

While I was at the PhD Project I received invaluable advice, insider information, and knowledge on the processes and necessary steps in pursuing a Business PhD. The event culminates with a university showcase where attendees can chat with representatives about their programs. For anyone REMOTELY interested in pursuing a PhD in Business, I HIGHLY recommend applying to attend this conference.

DocNet: DocNet is an organization of nearly 100 universities granting doctoral degrees in business administration and economics. Its purpose is to promote doctoral education in business throughout the world. The organization educates potential students about careers in academia and engages in a variety of recruiting strategies aimed at increasing the pool of qualified applicants for doctoral-granting institutions. DocNet members share information about best practices, curriculum and admissions issues, student support, and placement. DocNet is an affiliate of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools in Business.

Organizational Science Summer Institute (OSSI): OSSI is designed to provide underrepresented undergraduate students with a unique educational opportunity in research and graduate studies. This week-long program is fully-funded and provides a small stipend to its Fellows for their participation. I attended in May 2016 and forged fantastic professional and personal relationships with other attendees and professors.

Introduction To Diversity In Doctoral Education and Scholarship (IDDEAS): IDDEAS is a two-day program seeks to attract a diverse group of promising undergraduate students and introduce them to business research at the doctoral level. Funded by Wharton Doctoral Programs and the Office of the Dean of the Wharton School, the goal of this program is to support and encourage student and faculty diversity.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE): The SURE program is a summer internship program that takes place on The University of Texas at Austin campus for undergraduate students who are interested in research in psychology and are currently attending a college or university in the state of Texas. The program provides hands-on training that will make students more competitive for top doctoral training programs. In participating in this program in 2014, it was my first immersion experience into full-time, rigorous and independent research. Fully-funded, with housing, and a stipend.

Summer Research Internship @ Columbia Business School: This highly-selective program provides the interns with the opportunity to work on a research project with CBS’ leading faculty and researchers in finance, economics, marketing, management, decision sciences, operations, accounting, and data analytics. This program spans the entire summer and is fully-funded.

Summer Research - Early Identification Program (SR-EIP): SR-EIP is a fully paid summer internship that provides undergraduates with training and mentoring in the principles underlying the conduct of research and prepares them to pursue competitive applications to PhD or MD-PhD programs.
